TRIBUTE TO PALERMO CAPSULE REVIEW
Following Peru Secreto, which I found somewhat disappointing, Nespresso is back with two limited edition capsules paying homage to Italy (and Sicily), Tribute to Milano and Tribute to Palermo. With an intensity of 11 out 13, Palermo is the strongest of the two and, contrary to a similar capsule such as Ristretto, this one proves to be quite smooth making its strength more discreet. Featuring a rich, velvety body, Tribute to Palermo feels and tastes like authentic European coffee, almost transporting you to a café’s terrace. When it comes to taste, Palermo delivers a three-part experience. First, there are some slight cocoa notes piercing through the body, then comes a stronger salty aftertaste which finally gets complimented by some light bitterness. Working both as ristretto and espresso, Palermo is a great coffee sure to satisfy Italian coffee fanatics.
COFFEE PAIRING
- Activities: If you are planning to wake up with a slap, Palermo will certainly do the trick and this is one the capsules you can enjoy anytime whether you want to enjoy a coffee break or have it while working or reading. That said, be aware that its intensity might get you wired if you abuse it.
- Music: That one was easy and, for once, I will go for a cliché. While The Godafther’s theme might come to mind – you probably know what Palermo is known for – I will instead pick Ennio Morricone’s discography, not his western themes but rather the soundtracks he made for Italian and French crime thrillers.
- Food: You definitely want something strong as Palermo will take over anything that’s too sweet – dark chocolate and biscottis are good contenders.
PACKAGING
Nespresso always make something special with packaging when it comes to limited editions and Palermo is no exception. This coffee comes in a white rectangle box which includes 10 capsules, features grey and red handwriting as well as a stamp. The only thing that I find puzzling is that it features some French words “Hommage à” & “Edition Limitée” even though some Italian – or even Sicilian – would have made sense – hopefully the marketing guys at Nespresso didn’t confuse French for Italian. As for the capsules, they also come in white with the name Palermo being repeated in red.
